Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $35,000 - $45,000


Position Summary:The Assistive Technology Outreach Specialist will work with the Institute for School Reform (ISR), providing support with the use of assistive technology and universal design for learning to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for all students in the Florida PreK-12 school system. This position will support outreach programs and activities that will be implemented both in-person and through online platforms and will build on information, technologies, models, and digital collections that are areas of emphasis with the institute for School Reform. This position will assist in outreach to state, district, and school personnel through the operation of a statewide Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning Loan Library: to include the identification of appropriate and effective technologies, materials, and resources; the operations of the loan library system; and collection of outcome data. This position serves as a technology facilitator for the institute of School Reform, showcasing the latest in available techniques, platforms and tools for assistive technology, accessible educational materials, personalization, and universal design for learning. Assistance will also be provided for all loan library projects and support services to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). This position requires practical and demonstrable knowledge and experience in the areas of assistive technology, accessibility, instructional technology, and educational technology. A background in working with and managing the distribution and use of assistive technologies and instructional technologies is preferred. The ability to learn new software and hardware platforms is required.

Special Requirements: Valid Driver's License is a must.

  • Assist in the delivery of face-to-face and virtual professional development activities addressing assistive technology, accessible educational materials, personalized learning, and universal design for learning.
  • Participate in traveling outreach and coordination at unique events, conferences, external trainings along with other ISR staff.
  • Assist with digital collection data capture and development to be used for building teaching, training and outreach materials.
  • Maintain and manage the daily operation of statewide Assistive Technology & Universal Design for Learning Loan Library, to include the identification of appropriate equipment, materials, and resources for loan; communication with all patrons; shipping, receiving, and maintaining library resources; and collection of data on use and outcomes.
  • Assist with the maintenance, transport, and set-up of a variety of model hands-on technology demonstration labs at various state, regional, and local functions as requested.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or a technology certification, such as a certification in assistive technology; experience in the use of assistive technology for students with disabilities; experience in working with students with disabilities in an educational setting; experience in operating an assistive technology loan library.
  • Preference given to candidates with knowledge and experience managing assistive technologies and instructional technologies. Experience in operating a loan library and working with patrons. Experience in managing public outreach programs. Experience with virtual training environments, digital communications, database systems and apple device management software systems, and immersive technologies. Experience in subject matter areas related to universal education and universal instruction is a desired qualification.
